Starting a career can be exciting, but it can also be overwhelming because it involves getting used to a new culture and behaviour. The career path you choose can make a big difference here.

If you are pursuing a line of work that you find interesting, then you won’t shirk away from challenges or new assignments. You will sport a positive attitude even when someone takes you to task for some reason. An interest to learn more will always keep you moving forward. This will naturally mean more success in career and happiness in life.

But deciding on a career path isn’t a one-size-fits-all game. Vaibhav Sisinty, Founder & CEO of GrowthSchool, an edtech platform, says individuals should keep in mind their interests, aptitude and strengths while choosing a career.

Sisinty lists the important things to keep in mind as:

  1. Interest and passion
  2. Align career choices with financial goals
  3. Align career with lifestyle

The CEO of GrowthSchool says every person should choose a line of work that interests them. If you don’t feel a thrill about the work, you will underachieve or fail despite the best of opportunities.

If you are skilled in an area but lack interest in it, Sisinty suggests leveraging that skill as a secondary income source.

The key to a fulfilling career lies in balancing innate talents with acquired skills. If you’re a whiz at crunching numbers, finance roles could be your forte, says Sisinty. But interest and skills can only get you up to a point. The hard truth is that money is necessary and any job should be remunerative enough to pay the bills. So, Sisinty says, following your passion as a job should make financial sense too.

He advises individuals to assess if they have to support their family; what kind of life they want to lead; is stability or wealth important. Answers to such questions will tell an individual where they are in life and what they need.

Whatever line of work you choose, do not pick it just because it is trending now. Choose a path that’s not just a fad but will keep you employed for the rest of your life. Also make sure that the work requirements align with your lifestyle or that you can adjust to those requirements. Picking up a night shift call centre job might not be sustainable if you are a morning person.

It is also important that your career choice gives you opportunities to learn all the time. In today’s fast-paced world, staying ahead means continuously upgrading your skills. So do not underestimate this factor, says Sisinty.

Also, take a moment to see if the career choice resonates with the individual’s personal values. Settle for a path that not only rewards you but also aligns with your principles and contributes positively to the world around you.

From a founder’s perspective, Sisinty says, the right choice fuels not just professional success but also personal satisfaction. So forge a path that resonates with who you are and what you aim to achieve in the world, he adds.
